Unit Objectives
Prior Knowledge/For Review – Students should be able to:

Know squares and root up to 12, recognise cube numbers up to 5
Carry out basic calculation of powers and roots (Video 3.01)
Know the meaning of integer powers and the basic rules of indices; use the addition and subtraction index laws (Video 3.02)

IGCSE Core Learning Objectives – Students should be able to:

Use the vocabulary and notation of different sets of numbers, natural numbers, integers, rational numbers, irrational numbers, real numbers, primes, square numbers, cube numbers, triangle numbers (Video 3.03)
Simplify indices using the basic laws – multiplying and dividing e.g. 5x2 x 3x4 (Video 3.04)

IGCSE Extended Learning Objectives – Students should be able to:

Know the meaning of fractional powers
Know and use all the index laws, including with fractional and negative indices (Video 3.04) (Video 3.05) (Video 3.06)
Simplify expressions with surds (Video 3.07) (Video 3.08) (Video 3.09) (Video 3.10)
Rationalise the denominator, including by using conjugate (Video 3.11)
